Registration Data Policy
This policy explains what contact details we collect when you register a domain, why they are needed and who can see them.
Last updated: November 3, 2026
Why we collect registration data
Every domain must have up-to-date contact details. Registries and ICANN require them so that domains can be managed, ownership can be confirmed and problems can be reported. We collect only what is needed for this.
What we collect
- The domain owner's name and organization, if there is one
- Postal address, email address and phone number
- Extra details or documents required by some extensions, such as proof of local presence. We tell you when this applies.
Keeping it accurate
- You must give true details and update them when they change. You can update them in your client area.
- When you register a domain or change its owner's details, you may receive a verification email. If it is not confirmed within 15 days, the domain must be suspended until it is.
- We may suspend or cancel domains whose details are false, or when the owner does not respond to verification requests.
How it is used and shared
- We pass your details to the registrar and registry so they can register and manage your domain.
- Registrars keep a secure copy of registration data with an approved escrow provider, as ICANN requires, so domains can be protected if a registrar fails.
- Public records: for most generic extensions, your personal contact details are hidden from public RDAP and WHOIS records. Some details, such as your organization, state or country, may still be shown. Some country-code registries publish more information under their own rules.
- Hidden details are given to others only through our NPRD Disclosure Policy or when the law requires it.
- We never sell registration data.
How long we keep it
We keep registration data while your domain is registered with us, and afterwards for as long as ICANN rules and the law require. For generic domains, this is generally up to two years after the registration ends. After that, it is deleted or anonymized.
Your rights
You can view and correct your domain contact details at any time in your client area. Some data cannot be deleted while the domain is registered, because the registry requires it. For other requests, see the rights section of our Privacy Policy.
How we protect it
Registration data is sent over encrypted connections and is available only to the people and systems that need it to manage your domain.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when ICANN, registry or legal rules change. The date at the top shows the latest change.
